Elgin Organics was setup by Mike and Gay Prevost on their family apple farm in the Elgin Valley in 2000. After attending a seminar on micro-biological farming, they became aware of the damage being done to the environment by conventional farming methods. Fruit farming is notorious for harsh spray programmes.

Their farm was small enough to pay attention to detail over and above simply adhering to the required international criteria for organic orchard production. With the help of a large flock of ducks to control the snail population and bat houses to attract insectivores, they embarked on their organic journey.

In 2014, after 14 years of successful organic farming, Mike and Gay decided to sell the family farm. Sadly the new owner decided to switch the farm back to conventional farming.

Mike continues to make his Raw Apple Cider Vinegar. While Lorraine was the only certified organic apple farm in South Africa, there are still orchards in the Elgin Valley that farm using organic farming methods. Our Elgin Organics Raw Apple Cider Vinegar is made from apples sourced from these orchards.
