Canna Salve
A stronger infusion, and a solvent to carry it
The same balm over a longer list. A more potent cannabinoid extract in the same coconut oil base, three seed oils the standard does not carry, and dimethyl sulfoxide — which is the part of this jar worth understanding first.
The longer list
Three seed oils the standard does not carry
Most of this jar is the standard's balm: coconut oil as the base and as the solvent, four butters — cacao, shea, mafura, mango — then neem and argan, then lavender, geranium, eucalyptus and rosehip.
Three oils are on this list and not on the standard's, and all three are pressed from seeds rather than distilled. Moringa, from the pods of the drumstick tree. Marula, from the kernel inside the marula fruit. Baobab, from the seeds of the upside-down tree. Marula and baobab are Southern African, as is the mafura already in both jars, which makes three lines of this formulation that grow within reach of where it is made.
The wax differs too. The standard is set with carnauba; this one with sunflower wax and soy wax, both pulled out of the oils they are named for. Canna Heal list both waxes in different places, so whether that is a change across the whole range or a real difference between the two salves is not settled.
Organic where possible, which is how they mark it: most lines carry an asterisk, and not all of them do.
The DMSO
What dimethyl sulfoxide is
DMSO is the second difference and the more interesting one. Dimethyl sulfoxide is a clear, colourless liquid, a by-product of turning wood into paper, and one of the most capable solvents there is — it dissolves things neither water nor oil will touch, and unlike an oil it does not stay on the surface of skin.
Canna Heal's stated reason for putting it in is that it carries the salve further: their words are that DMSO allows the Canna Salve to reach deep below your skin. That is what a penetrating solvent does. It goes through, and it takes whatever is dissolved in it along.
That property runs both ways. A solvent that carries dissolved substances through skin does not stop to distinguish between the salve and whatever else is on the skin at the time.
Where it goes
The stronger of the two
The method is the standard's: rubbed into the skin where you want it, firm in the jar and soft as soon as it is on skin. Nothing is swallowed and nothing is counted.
What differs is only the strength. Canna Heal say the standard is what most people reach for, and this is the one to take if you want more of the extract in the same balm.
Their two cautions apply to both jars: keep it away from the eyes, and take care applying it over an open wound. Given what DMSO does, the second is worth reading twice on this one.
Neither jar is given an amount, a frequency or a course length.

Canna Heal's own list, in their order, and the one written for this jar: they also publish the standard's older list, which disagrees about the wax and about moringa, marula and baobab. Organic where possible is their own qualifier. No proportion, percentage or weight is published for any line, including the DMSO, so none is shown.

A note on informed use
Plant medicine deserves preparation. For most people this is gentle and uneventful, but some situations call for a conversation first.

SSRIs and other antidepressants
They compete for the same serotonin receptors, and can dull the effect substantially. People who feel nothing at all are often taking one without having made the connection. It doesn't rule anything out; it does mean the timing is worth discussing with your doctor first.
