Ingredients

Organic grapeseed oil infused with motherwort, ladysmantle, cramp bark, ginger, black pepper, evening primrose oil, castor oil, clary sage and rose.

Motherwort: Motherwort or 'Mothers Herb' is used to support the female reproductive system. Known as an emmenogogue, Motherwort acts as a uterine tonic which helps to regulate menstruation, bring on delayed periods and can reduce smooth muscle cramping. Post natally, it is given to help the uterus relax and return to normal.

Ladysmantle: Ladysmantle has become a highly valued "women's herb" due to its wide application for numerous gynecological problems. It restores tone and vitality to the uterus and is used for issues associated with the reproductive system such as painful and irregular periods. The salicylates in the herb have anti-inflammatory affect which can alleviate pain.

Cramp Bark: An antispasmodic and nervine used primarily for the uterus. Cramp bark is used for dysmenorrhea (painful menstrual cramps), PMS low back pain and muscle pain associated with menopause.

Ginger: Ginger increases circulation of blood, it is also an anti-inflammatory.

Black Pepper: Black Pepper is an anti-spasmodic, warming and helping calm abdominal cramps.

Evening Primrose Oil: The high content of Linolenic Acid (LA) and GLA in Evening Primrose Oil strengthens the epidermal barrier and regenerates skin. In Ayurveda it is known as the “King’s Cure-all”. Its fresh flowers, seeds and roots are used in the treatment of PMS and menopausal problems.

Castor Oil: Castor Oil increases both lymphatic circulation and blood flow which has immune and detoxification benefits, as well as assisting to alleviate pain. Used on the abdomen to relieve period pain, but can also be used on other areas of the body to promote circulation and decrease inflammation (like over the liver). Used to alleviate, cysts, fibroids inflammation and constipation.

Clary Sage: Clary Sage has been shown to relieve menstrual pain, support hormonal balance, relieve insomnia, increase circulation, aid digestion.

Rose: True heart medicine, Rose proves beneficial in moments of sadness, grief, and emotional distress. The aroma of Rose possesses the gentle power to comfort the heart and uplift the spirit. With its antidepressant and sedative qualities, Rose aids in navigating mood fluctuations during cycles and contributes to a steady menstrual rhythm while alleviating cramps.

 

Directions

For postpartum: Use the flat of your hand and fingers to gently press and rub your abdomen in circular motions. Press gently on your abdomen, just above the pubic bone, and push upwards, gently but firmly, as if you move the uterus upwards. Repeat this motion 15 times. The massage should last approximately 5 minutes. Best done by your postpartum doula or midwife.

For moon cycle: For a ritual massage to honour your womb and help alleviate pain massage abdomen during your moon cycle before bed. Can also be used with a castor oil pelvic pack like this one from Faithful to Nature, or you can easily make one at home with some old towels.

Q: Why do a uterus massage post birth?

A: A uterine massage (or fundal massage) is performed to encourage the uterus to contract and go back into pre-pregnancy alignment, to prevent postpartum hemorrhaging and to help alleviate after pains.

Q: How often should it optimally be done?

A: This massage is generally performed every 10-15 minutes for the first hour after birth, and every 30 minutes during the second hour.After the first two hours this massage usually happens every 4-8 hours and ca be continued over the first few days postpartum.

Q: Can this be used during pregnancy?

A: Womb Magic should not be used during pregnancy. The only exception is just before labor and during labour to help labour along, and only under the care of an experienced practitioner.
