Raw cacao with kanna and rose geranium
Made in Noordhoek with dates, raisins, macadamia, cashew and raw cacao. Rose geranium adds a floral note, while Sceletium extract makes this the kanna ball in the range.
The ball
Dried fruit, nuts and cracked nib
Dates and raisins are worked into a dense paste with macadamia and cashew nuts. Raw cacao, vanilla and Oryx Desert Salt round out the centre.
Each ball is rolled in cracked cacao nib, giving the outside a rough crunch before you reach the softer fruit-and-nut centre.
The label describes the ball as organic, raw, vegan, gluten-free and without added sugar. It contains macadamia and cashew nuts and may contain fragments of fruit stones.
The botanicals
Two southern African plants in the mix
Sceletium tortuosum, also known as kanna, is a low-growing succulent from southern Africa. This recipe uses an extract of the plant, and the pack calls the result a Sceletium Cacao ball.
Rose geranium, Pelargonium graveolens, brings a soft floral aroma that sits surprisingly well beside dark cacao and salt.

From the packet to the jar
The balls are made by Blissfoods in Noordhoek and arrive loose in a small, plastic-free paper packet. Move them into a jar or resealable bag when they arrive.
The nutritional panel is given per 15g serving: 350.5kJ, 1.6g protein, 7.7g glycaemic carbohydrate, 3.4g fat and 2.1g dietary fibre.
No serving schedule is supplied for the Sceletium extract.
